Salt has always been important for economy of Dubrovnik especially in the Middle Ages, in the times of Dubrovnik’s Republic, when salt was largely exported.

As a result, there are several important salt mines which process salt in the same manner since Roman Times. The salt that you find in Medusa shop comes from Pag island which is famous for salt with its numerous salt fields.

Following old traditional recipes, the Antunović family from Pelješac peninsula produces a sellection of 14 beverages, fruit liqueurs and herbal brandies all of which are awarded for exquisite quality on the Eco World Fest 2009 in Opatija. The products have the label Croatian Island Product as a sign of products of special quality.

The so called Licitar selection

The so-called licitar sellection of Christmas and Easter ornaments. This craft of gingerbread ornaments, coated and decorated with sugar goes back two hundred years. The Blažeković family has been in this business since 1953. Their work (licitar angels) can be seen in the ethnographic museum in Zagreb. Due to their excellent work and a great choice of ornaments, this year the Blažeković family will make Vatican’s manger.

In spite of the ingredients, the ornaments last many years and are not easily breakable.

Brac Stone

These products are made of the stone from the islad of Brac. The island is famous for quality stone exported to the west and east for centuries. A Curiosity is that the White House in the States, Venice, the Parlaments in Austria and Hungary and many more world-known buildings were made from this quality stone.
